Bespoke Systems for
UK Manufacturers
UK SME and mid-market manufacturers rarely fit off-the-shelf ERP. Quoting rules don't match. Job cards look different. The shop floor has its own language. Most manufacturers we meet have ended up with a patchwork of spreadsheets, Microsoft Access databases and bolt-on apps that mostly-but-not-quite do the job.
We build the custom FileMaker systems that replace the patchwork. One place for quoting, orders, jobs, stock, despatch and customer service — integrated with your accounts package, running on desktop, iPad and the web.
What we build on FileMaker
for UK manufacturers
Custom quoting & configure-to-order
Rule-driven quoting with options, margin protection, approval workflows and branded PDF output. Handles the one-offs and the repeatable products.
Job cards & production tracking
Shop-floor-friendly job cards on iPad and desktop. Status, time, materials, photos and exceptions captured where the work happens.
Stock & inventory
Multi-location stock, batch and serial tracking, min/max alerts, goods-in and goods-out workflows tailored to how your warehouse actually runs.
Despatch & logistics
Pick lists, carrier integrations, branded despatch documents and automated customer notifications — linked back to the original order and job.
Accounting & ERP integration
Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, Shopify, WooCommerce and custom EDI. Accounting stays where it should and FileMaker holds the operational truth.
Customer & supplier portals
React and Next.js portals that let customers place orders, see progress, download documents — and let suppliers book deliveries.
Why FileMaker fits
UK manufacturers
One platform, every surface. The same system runs on Windows, Mac, iPad and in a web browser. No chaining six SaaS tools together.
Built around your process. Quoting rules, job cards, stock moves and KPIs match how your factory works, not a generic ERP template.
Affordable for UK SMEs. A bespoke FileMaker build is typically a fraction of the cost of a full ERP rollout — without the per-user annual SaaS treadmill.
Your data, your rules. Host on FileMaker Server on your own hardware, on a private UK cloud, or on Claris's managed hosting. No vendor lock-in.
Extensible with AI. FileMaker 2025's native AI features — natural-language search, RAG, vector search and LLM integration — are increasingly useful for forecasting, scheduling and quality.

How we deliver
manufacturing systems
Discovery on the shop floor. We start by walking the process with the people who live it — not just reading your SOPs.
Agile delivery. Working software in weeks, not a Big Reveal at the end of a 12-month programme. Each iteration is something your team can actually use.
Integration from day one. Accounts, stock, web orders and logistics are integrated as we go — not bolted on at the end.
Long-term partner. Once the system is live, we continue as your FileMaker partner for support, new features and future modernisation.

Replacing Microsoft Access
in a manufacturing setting
A large proportion of UK manufacturers still rely on a Microsoft Access database somewhere in the operation — quoting, stock, scheduling, quality records. With Access 2021 support ending 13 October 2026, that's now a business continuity risk.
Migrating an Access manufacturing system to FileMaker usually takes a few months, delivered in milestones so the business isn't exposed through the handover.
Manufacturing questions
our team is often asked
Why choose a bespoke system over off-the-shelf manufacturing ERP?
For many UK SME manufacturers, off-the-shelf ERP is either too expensive, too rigid, or bends the business around its data model. A bespoke FileMaker system typically costs a fraction of an ERP rollout, fits how your shop floor actually works, and keeps the knowledge inside your business rather than a vendor's cloud.
Can you integrate with our accounting package?
Yes. We regularly integrate FileMaker with Sage, Xero and QuickBooks, along with Shopify, WooCommerce, Stripe, GoCardless and custom EDI setups. Accounting stays where it should be and the operational detail lives in FileMaker.
Do you build systems that work on the shop floor, not just in the office?
Yes. Shop-floor use is where FileMaker's multi-platform story genuinely shines — the same system running on desktop Windows or Mac, on iPad (FileMaker Go) for machine-side data capture, and on the web for visibility into the office and for customers.
Can a FileMaker system handle custom quoting and configure-to-order?
Yes. Custom quoting — with rules, options, margin protection, approval workflows and PDF generation — is one of the sweet-spot use cases for FileMaker. It's often the first part of a manufacturing system we get asked to build.
What about upgrading from a Microsoft Access manufacturing system?
We migrate Access-based manufacturing systems to FileMaker regularly. Microsoft Access 2021 support ends in October 2026, so any Access-based system is now on a countdown. See our Microsoft Access replacement page for detail.
