Smart Wolf were approached by J S Wright & Co Ltd to replace their current Microsoft Access systems with the FileMaker platform. Starting with the defect management department and branching out to various other teams after that. There are now multiple apps and systems in place that use FileMaker.
WHAT DO THEY DO?
J S Wright & Co Ltd are building service engineers based in Birmingham with offices in Bristol and London. They specialise in the design and installation of heating, plumbing, ventilation, air conditioning and drainage solutions for the Hotel, Leisure, Residential, Student Accommodation and Commercial sectors nationally.

Defect management system!
The ‘Aftercare’ system that has been developed by Smart Wolf allows staff to control the defect management period on properties, logging defects and booking engineer appointments with an automated notification process.
Design and estimating system!
The ‘Design’ system has been developed to allow J S Wright & Co Ltd to put together project proposals and log key financial data. Replacing their Microsoft Access system to improve usability and reporting.
Quality management app!
The ‘Handover’ app has been developed for use out on site by engineers using iPads. Quality checks and assessments are performed on buildings, the app then sends reports and photographs back to the centralised system for analysis.
THE STORY SO FAR
J S Wright & Co Ltd were using Microsoft Access to manage their defects and defect period on properties. Whilst this was performing as expected, there were various processes that they wanted to add to the system and simply could not due to how the system had been setup. Smart Wolf were approached to consider the feasibility of moving to the FileMaker platform.
It was apparent that the processes that were required were a great fit for FileMaker. Sending automatic emails to occupiers and clients, having ‘one-click’ reporting available, keeping an audit log of all communications and producing on-site engineer reports using iPads.
The ‘Aftercare’ system was developed to manage defect details, allowing team members to book appointments where required and notify occupiers of progress. Smart Wolf have also developed a FileMaker Go solution for use on iPads that serves as data entry for engineers when they are on site attending a defect.
Once the defect management department were using FileMaker, word quickly spread throughout the company and other departments were interesting in also using the platform. Since then, Smart Wolf have developed FileMaker systems for other teams within J S Wright & Co Ltd and continue to develop and support the company’s FileMaker infrastructure.
